Life has a way of turning up the heat. For some, the fire is a place of loss; but for those within this community, the fire is where we are forged. I’m I'm Taveion Mickens, a U.S. Marine, a student of Health Administration at George Mason University, and a believer in the power of the human story.
Growing up in Florida and serving in the Corps taught me discipline, but it was listening to the "silent battles" of those around me that taught me empathy. I realized that while everyone is fighting a fire, not everyone has a platform to talk about how they survived it.
Mickens Nation and the Surviving the Flame podcast were created to be that platform. We are here to bridge the gap between adversity and advocacy. Whether you are navigating the rigors of service, the challenges of parenthood, or the uphill climb of a career, this is a space to share your blueprint for survival. We don’t just survive the flame here, we grow through it.
